Beginner Overlocker Course
Learn how to use your overlocker to make a garment in jersey fabric. We cover sizing, pattern markings, fitting, cutting out, sewing seams and finishings.
The garment will be a basic T-shirt, with some varying options of adding ruffles to the bottom.
Cost: £170 - 5 x 2 hour classes, suitable for those who can thread up and use their overlocker for edging fabrics already

Cost: £199- Combine with ‘overlocker lesson zero’ - machine sewing intro, for those who are complete beginners or need a brush up on overlocker basics. We offer this discounted cost for all six lessons if booked together.

You must be able to already use an overlocker to book this course. If you don’t know how to thread it up, you will need to book our overlocker lesson zero too (link above).

You don’t need to have your own overlocker, but if you don’t you will need to hire one of ours. Please add the appropriate machine rental to your order.

Location:
This term classes are held in South Nutfield, Surrey (full address given once booked) . There is some free parking, plus free road parking at the location.
Each class is up to 2 hours long.
Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes beforehand to set up your equipment and get settled in. We start promptly at the times stated - we have lots to fit in!!

If you want to book the full course but cannot make one of the dates, you can book the lesson you will miss as private tuition. This would be £40 extra per 2 hour lesson*, discounted from the usual £35 per hour private tuition which would be £70. Please contact us via the form at the bottom of the page to arrange this separately after booking.
*this discounted private tuition price only applies when booking/booked on to the full course.
Fabrics:
You will need to purchase fabric, along with 4 matching thread reels, for your garment in advance of lesson 2. We will let you know yardages and suitable fabric choices once you have booked via our welcome letter.
Sewing machines and equipment:
Please bring your own machine with you. If you do not have a machine and have never used one, you will also need to do our overlocker lesson zero (link above) and you can hire one of our machines for all the lessons (small surcharge per lesson).

Lesson 1: Sizing and Pattern adjustments
Measuring the body
Understanding commercial patterns, markings and terminology
Sizing your pattern and cut out mock up
Lesson 2: Mock up sewing and fitting, plus adjustments
Sew mock up in practice fabric to a fitting stage
Learn about basic fitting adjustments and how to translate these to the flat pattern
Cut out final fabric if you have time
Lesson 3: Cutting and begin sewing
Finish cutting out and pattern markings
Join basic seams and hem sleeves
Lesson 4: Neckline and sleeves
Attach neckline finish and insert sleeves
Lesson 5: Sleeves and finishing
Finishing sleeves, adding ruffles (if chosen) and hemming
